Acknowledgement

I would like to acknowledge that I am a student studying at Humber Polytechnic located on the traditional and​ Treaty 13, 1805 lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. This territory is also subject to the Dish with One Spoon​ Wampum, a covenant agreement between Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee, Wendat peoples and allied nations to​ peaceably share the land and all its resources.

Professional Journey

While I was working with my aunt at her salon, I would get some of the kid's hair ready for her while she finishes someone else's hair. While I was doing this, I learned how to comfort the children while  washing, separating, or even detangling their hair.  I would also keep them distracted if their parent came to do their hair for example, I could bring art stuff so we could paint or draw, do storytelling and make our one characters using the boxes from the product delivery's. ​

I have also cared for younger children from newborn to school age. The first child I ever baby sited was one month old, looked after them till they went to daycare. While I was watching them, I taught them many thing while they were growing up and before they went to daycare like teaching them to walk, eat, spell, write and many other things.​

I have also babysat a toddler that has ADHD, it took a while to figure out what works best for them, and we went through a lot of different strategies that would help them for when they start school. Overall working with a toddler with ADHD was a fun and interesting experience.

  • Making sure all children feel welcome and respected/cared for​
  • Working with children at their pace and supporting them through their development​
  • Making as much activity's welcomed to all children
